2: How Much Do Wedding Invitations Cost?
This is a question I often get asked, and it's a really hard question to answer. There are so many elements to a wedding invitation and the cost can vary significantly depending on what it is you are looking for. It's all dependent on what kind of style you want, and the possibilities are endless. So why do invitations vary in price so much and why are they sometimes so expensive?
The Style of Your Wedding Invitation
The style of the wedding invitation you want impacts the price significantly. If you want a single paged, flat invitation then this is going to be a lot cheaper than a pocket fold with ten inserts.
Really think about the details that you need to include. Do you really need an additional RSVP card, or can these details be added to the main invitation? Have a quick read of my previous post Tip 1: Wedding Invitation Elements to see what you might want to include. But for now, just remember that the more elements you want, the more expensive it will be.

The Design
The design of your invitation also affects the cost of design. If you are choosing an 'off the shelf' design that already exists (like you will see on my Wedding Stationery Sets page) then the price for design will be a lot less because the design has already been produced. For example, for some of my items I charge as little as £5 to make the edits, purely because I know how expensive weddings can be, so I try to keep additional charges to an absolute minimum.
If you want something bespoke, or a significant amount of alterations to an existing design then this will cost you extra, as the designer (me!) has to spend time designing this for you. So, if you want something with ten inserts, this is going to involve ten lots of design and the price is going to increase.
The Printing
This is where most of the cost goes. Printing can be very expensive. You need to factor in what size and what card stock you want. A basic silk card will work out a lot cheaper than a pearlescent thick card, and textured cards sit somewhere in between. And then don't forget you need envelopes, so these are an additional cost. And of course delivery.
With regards to the quantity that you need, you will probably see on most Wedding Stationers websites that the price seems to be more expensive for smaller quantities. so a small print run for 25 guests can be of a similar price as printing for 100 guests. This is because the upfront setup costs are spread over fewer copies (creating printing plates, preparing the printing press etc). You will find when looking into printing costs that the price per unit decreases as the number of copies increases because these fixed costs are distributed across a larger quantity.
So How Much Do Wedding Invitations Cost?
The short answer is there is no simple answer. The best option is to talk to your designer before you set in stone what it is you are looking for. I always send a break down of all the elements and all the individual prices, and I do my very best to keep your design within budget. Honestly, sometimes I spend hours researching ways to keep the cost down but still achieve the look you are wanting.
